Deep Breath: A New Year.

Heavens. A new school year. Henry and I just went to his first day of school, and then out for a celebratory Happy Meal. (Yeah, I wish that when I asked him where he wanted to have breakfast, he picked a yummy, organic, hipster brunch spot. But he's three. He picked McDonald's.)

A week from tomorrow I leave for my first set of Bittersweet events--a busy week in Menlo Park, Santa Barbara, Alta Loma, & Azusa. Phew!

A few local events that I'm really looking forward to: we're doing an event with Becky Johnson at The Story Conference at Park Community Church on Friday night, September 24th at 7pm. Becky's a friend and an amazing musician. We'll both play a few parts in the conference itself, and then Friday night she'll play and I'll read and take some questions. We'd love to see you there!

We're doing a breakfast at Willow the next morning, September 25--it's $10 if you register early, and you get a copy of Bittersweet with your breakfast.  You can sign up here.  And as a follow-up to that, we're doing a book club at Willow on October 13th in the evening. Click here to register for that.

For more details about fall events, please click over to the calendar, and as always, feel free to send an email to Brannon with any questions about hosting or attending an event.

One cool thing is that at almost every event the hosts will be selling Bittersweet for ten dollars, and I'll be greeting and signing after each event--so if you're thinking ahead on Christmas shopping or hostess gifts, you can get a whole little stack and get them personalized, too.

I'm still reeling a bit from a truly lovely holiday weekend--a spectacular wedding at the Elysian, a really perfect couple days at the lake.  I'm trying to get into the swing of fall: the to-do list, the errands, the cooling evenings.  But my heart is still filled with summer.  I'm putting away the life jacket and the swimmies, getting out the long-sleeved jammies, getting work clothes dry cleaned for next week's trip.  But I'm not getting too far ahead of myself: we did have ice cream for dinner just last night, and I'm thinking tonight might be a repeat...

Shauna,

my husband Nat and I signed up for the Catalyst breakfast - we can't wait!

I am excited to see you in real life - I think we know a lot of the same people from Willow and also LGYC.

Thank you for your books. They are a gift.

I'm excited for the Bittersweet tour to kick off! And also planning to come see you in "real life" this fall. I finished reading Bittersweet on a Friday night. On Saturday morning I woke up still thinking about it and about your Grandma Hybels and the twins and about how my husband got cancer and just about the unfairness of life sometimes. Then I went and wrote on my blog for a really long time because when I read your writing I always feel inspired to write. Your book brought me back to the place of remembering that God's hand is at work in everything. I am trying to teach myself to just ride the wave, to believe that the seasons will change, and to give thanks and grow when things are tough. Thank you, thank you, thank you for that.

Cold Tangerines finally arrived today and I cannot wait to start it!
